We are sorry to have to report the event has had to be cancelled. The wier in Thomastown had suffered some damaged as a result of the high waters last summer. The damage at the time was minor and hadnt affected the hole much other than to make it a little shallower.

But as the water level dropped following the high waters of 2 or 3 weeks ago the force of the water tore the River Left arm of the wier apart. The debris litters the area around the hole it is no longer possible for us to host an event there.
We were aware of the possibility of further damage to the wier by high water but had little time to affect any change. As a result of the extensitve damage it is no longer possible for us to host the event in Thomastown and have had to cancelled the event.
Sorry to all those who were eagerly anticipating the event. We will however be contacting Kilkenny County Council shortly to inform them of the situation. The wier not only served as a local play spot for paddlers but it also services the water wheel of Grennans Mill. We are unaware of the impact the damage to the wier has had to its operations. But we are hoping this coupled with the popularity of the site for paddling will encourage the council to act. We will keep you all informed of any further details.
We will post a few phtos of the wier here shortly. Caution is advised when paddling in and around the wier.
Again Sorry
yours
WITKC
